Program Overview

Our Construction Craft Laborer Pre-Apprenticeship Program offers a robust blend of classroom instruction and hands-on training, designed to prepare you for a successful career in the construction industry. This comprehensive 288-hour curriculum focuses on the practical skills, certifications, and knowledge needed to excel in today's competitive workforce.

 

What You’ll Learn

Our program is structured around core classes that provide a strong foundation in construction craft labor:

  1. Roofing Techniques and Applications 

    • Dive into the fundamentals of roofing, including different roofing systems, installation techniques, safety protocols, and maintenance practices. Gain hands-on experience with various roofing materials and learn industry-standard techniques.

  2. Power Tools and Hand Tools 

    • Develop an in-depth understanding of power and hand tools, including their selection, use, and maintenance. Master safe operation techniques and advanced skills for specialized construction tasks.

  3. Home Repair and Maintenance 

    • Learn to perform structural repairs, fix fixtures, and maintain home systems. This course covers tool usage, surface preparation, and skills for addressing common home maintenance issues.

  4. Flooring Installation and Maintenance 

    • Train in the installation, maintenance, and repair of various flooring materials such as hardwood, laminate, tile, carpet, and vinyl. Build proficiency through both theoretical knowledge and practical application.

  5. Painting and Wallpapering 

    • Explore surface preparation, professional painting techniques, and wallpapering methods. Gain skills in achieving durable, high-quality finishes and learn maintenance strategies.

  6. OSHA 30 Construction Safety Certification 

    • Complete comprehensive training to earn your OSHA 30 certification, equipping you with the knowledge to maintain safety on any job site.

Eligibility Requirements

Our Construction Craft Laborer Pre-Apprenticeship Program is open to motivated individuals who are eager to start a career in construction. To join, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Age – You must be at least 18 years old.

  2. Education – A high school diploma or GED is not required to apply; however, a GED must be obtained prior to graduating the program. 

  3. Residency – Must reside in Detroit or surrounding areas.

  4. Physical Ability – This program involves hands-on training and physical work. Applicants should be prepared for activities like lifting, bending, and working on their feet.

  5. Commitment – We look for applicants ready to commit to the 288-hour training program and willing to advance into our Registered Apprenticeship Program upon completion.

 

No prior construction experience is needed—just a strong work ethic and a desire to learn!
